Drought led to Mayan civilization’s fall: study

The prolific Mayan civilization of the Americas might have been wiped out by a drought, a fresh study conducted by a team of Rice University researchers suggests.

The team led by André Droxler, an earth scientist at Rice University in Houston, linked the fall of the Mesoamerican civilization to lack of water or drought that made it impossible for the then people to feed their crops.
