Yorktown Heights, N.Y.: The FDNY does not officially classify the 9/11-related cancer deaths of firefighters as line-of-duty deaths, and they are not counted as part of the tally of firefighters who have died in the line of duty since 1865. Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro was the Chief of Department and in charge of the rescue and recovery operations at the World Trade Center. These firefighters who have died from 9/11-related cancer worked for him. They did every thing he requested and more.

It is time for Nigro to take care of his firefighters and officially classify their fatalities as line-of-duty deaths and count them among the number of firefighters who have died in the line of duty.
