Just about every group of friends has that one guy who still quotes Pulp Fiction like it just hit theaters last week. Heading out for burgers? He’ll have the Royale with Cheese. Trip over your own words? “English, mother*cker! Do you speak it?” Respond, “What?” to one of his dumb questions and you’re bound to hear, “Say what again!” Did one of your friends have a disagreement with his significant other? “Does he look like a bitch?” Oh that guy, you’re everywhere in this world and you’re never going away, but we don’t really mind, because 20 years later, we all still love Pulp Fiction a lot. Need proof? Just turn on your damn TV.
Ever since Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece was released in theaters on this day 20 years ago, there has been no shortage of tributes to Pulp Fiction in popular culture. While the movie had an undeniable influence on at least a decade’s worth of Dawson Leerys, who would go on to write many of the sit...

There’s even a DJ duo that named themselves ‘Zed’s Dead.’

I’ll never hear adrenaline shot again without thinking about Mia Wallace. Also, “English motherfucker, do you speak it?!” is a phrase that I use frequently.

The concept of the Simpsons episode “22 Short Films About Springfield” was taken from Pulp Fiction, and there are at least a couple of direct references. Snake and Chief Wiggum fight into Herman’s shop like the pawn shop/Zed sequence, the cops debate the Quarter Pounder vs. the Krusty Burger, etc.

I could be wrong but I think I have another cast member reference in another movie. In one of the lesser Die Hards (or maybe another Bruce Willis movie that came out shortly after PF) somebody yells at Bruce Willis to do something and he says something like, “What do you think I’m doing, smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo???” (which is a line from the song he sings along with when he’s driving the little car before he hits Marcellus). I just remember this from when I saw whatever Bruce Willis movie it was in theater but I’m fairly sure. Thanks.

The dance moves one doesn’t do it for me, if only because they were probably just imitating 50s dance moves rather than Pulp Fiction specifically. Still, I’m just glad no one’s tried to imitate whats-her-name’s “pot belly” speech

My kid is finally old enough to watch classics like this. So we sat down and watched it about three months ago. When it was done, she just shrugged her shoulders and said meh. Needless to say, she’s still grounded for that.
