Young sea turtles try to swim in particular directions instead of going with ocean currents

Using a tracking technology, marine scientists have discovered that rather than follow ocean currents as they grow up, young sea turtles make joint effort to swim in particular directions – in a study that fills the void of the “lost years” that sea turtles spend drifting out at sea.

Publishing their findings in the journal Current Biology, the researchers were able to capture 44 one-year sea turtles and tracked them with satellite tags in the Gulf of Mexico, later comparing the movement of the tracked turtles to floating buoys.
