After undergoing a stool transplant from her daughter, woman suffered a dramatic weight gain according to doctors’ report. This medical procedure infuses healthy bacteria into a diseased gut but according to the US doctors it might have affected her waistline. The woman, after the transplant, quickly gained around 36 pounds (16 kg) and she is now classed as obese. According to a UK expert the link between gut bugs as well as obesity was still unclear. The transplant is intended to introduce good and healthy bacteria into the gut. Even UK health service backed the procedure officially the past year.
A transplant is used usually when people have stubborn clostridium difficile infection in their bowels. This infection can result in vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. It cannot always be treated with antibiotics.
