Why Some Mammals Kill off Infants?

Infanticide — one male mammal kills off the infants of another dominant male — is tactical and occurs in stable groups in which males and females live together, Cambridge University researchers stated in a recently conducted study published in Science journal on 13th November.

The study authors revealed that inside a social group, a male deposes a rival male. He’ll kill the rival’s offspring so that females in the group can invest in the well being of the new male’s offspring. In competitive mammal species, dominant males have less chances to sire kids.
