Why latest Islamic State beheading might be sending new message

The beheading of a Syrian scholar who refused to divulge the secret location of priceless antiquities suggests that the Islamic State might have wanted to sell them as a new source of funding.

Washington — Khaled al-Asaad would not divulge to Islamic State militants where the antique treasures of his beloved Palmyra were carted off to and hidden before the Islamist extremists took control of the ancient Roman city in Syria earlier this year.
