Why 'Jupiter Ascending,' 'Seventh Son' Are Sharing IMAX

There are three major releases this weekend, and this article is not about The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. No, the other two big releases this weekend are the Wachowskis’ Jupiter Ascending and Seventh Son. Both films are big-budget fantasy pictures that are getting mediocre buzz and relatively lousy reviews. Both films were delayed from their original launch dates and by coincidence ended up on the same early February slot. Both films are available in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D. Wait, what? Yup, both films were going to get the IMAX Experience treatment for their original release dates and both films are still receiving said treatment starting tonight. As such, for the first time and presumably last time, we will have two major releases sharing an opening weekend IMAX screen.

Now this is not the first time that a domestic IMAX screen has played more than one film at a time.
