Wholesale inventories slips 0.1% in July, versus expectations for 0.3% gain

Expectations for U.S. consumer spending appear to have dimmed in July, as wholesalers cut their inventories slightly and sales fell.

The Commerce Department says wholesale stockpiles slipped 0.1 percent, while sales dropped 0.3 percent. This follows a solid 0.7 percent gain in inventories and 0.4 percent sales increase in June.
