'Whitney' recap: The legend of Saint Bobby

So here’s the thing. Lifetime’s Whitney has been battling an uphill climb for sometime now. The network allowed the Angela Bassett project to continue, even after the family openly disapproved of its creation. Unauthorized and unashamed, Whitney follows the likes of other unauthorized Lifetime movies, but as far as we should be concerned, if the Whitney Houston biopic simply tells Whitney’s story without any flagrant disregard for truth or tact, then it should be considered a moderate success.

The movie opens in 1989, with Whitney Houston (YaYa DaCosta) arriving to the Soul Train Music Awards, because honestly where else would you start?
