The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission says a whale that beached itself in Indian Shores was not able to be saved and was euthanized.

The 6-to-7 foot long pygmy sperm whale was the victim of a shark attack. The type of bites on its body led rescuers to believe it may have been a cookiecutter shark, according to an FWC spokesperson. It is not known if the whale had an illness that may have caused its death.
