The Illinois Department of Public Health issued an advisory on a mosquito-borne illness in a press release on Thursday, after a 34-year-old woman was diagnosed to be infected with the West Nile virus. This is the first human case of West Nile virus in Illinois this summer. The Department reported that the woman, a West Ridge neighborhood resident, contracted the virus in July. She is now recovering at home.
The state had seven human cases of West Nile last year and 69 cases in 2012. The last human case of West Nile virus in Brevard County was in 2010, a year in which Florida saw 12 human cases.
