Weight loss surgery before joint replacement surgery can be helpful

Generally, health experts recommend bariatric surgery for overweight or obese people. However, a new study published in the journal Allergy and Clinical Immunology suggests that bariatric surgery could have additional advantages- it can prove to be of help for those who are about to receive joint replacement surgery, and for asthma flare-ups.

Weight loss after bariatric surgery is linked with reduced risk of heart disease, diabetes and even some forms of cancer. However, this is the first time that the effect of bariatric surgery on joint replacement procedures has been studied.
