This year marks the 40th anniversary of Grey Gardens, the landmark documentary by David and Albert Maysles that introduced the world to “Big Edie” and “Little Edie”—former socialites, mother and daughter, relatives of Jackie O, and residents of the crumbling, raccoon-infested East Hampton mansion that has loomed large in pop culture ever since.
To mark the anniversary, the Criterion Collection has partnered with the Academy Film Archive to release a 2K restoration of the film, in theaters this weekend.
