What to Watch on Monday: ‘Gotham’ and ‘Forever’ top tonight’s debuts

Gotham (8pm, Fox) - Think of this as “Batman Begins” without Batman. “Gotham” is a prequel to the Batman stories we know from the movies and television show, picking up on the life of young Bruce Wayne just as his parents are being murdered. The detectives assigned to solve the murder of Gotham’s most prominent millionaires are rookie detective James Gordon (that’s right, the future police commissioner) and his more experienced partner, Harvey Bullock. It smartly pays attention to the villains, who are often the most interesting characters in Batman lore. Newcomer Robin Lord Taylor, with his beaked nose and every-present umbrella, is perfect as the young Penguin. Read the full review of “Gotham.”
