NASA’S EARTH-OBSERVING SATELLITES have the uncertain honor of observing all of us every day. Now, this video from the convoy zipping across the world is simply thrilling enough to make you want to the same. About 400 miles above the low-Earth orbit, the 18 spacecrafts are continuously taking photos and gathering information about the Earth, inspecting the environment and the oceans, its forests and deserts. They circle the world every hour and a half, turning around 8 orbits within the 12 hours recorded in the animation.

Look closer and you will see that the majority of these aircrafts orbit the Earth in North-Southern direction – this is termed as a polar orbit.
