Warming Climate Can Be Slowed in a Decade

In a bit of good news on the climate, a new study finds that any reductions in carbon emissions today will help the planet’s atmosphere only 10 years from now, rather than the 30- to 50-year scenario that's been understood by scientists and policymakers up until now. It also means that we -- not our grandchildren -- are the ones who will benefit, or suffer, the consequences of actions taken now, the researchers said.

The study by Katharine Ricke, a postdoctoral fellow in global ecology at the Carnegie Institution for Science, used several dozen existing climate models to predict future scenarios.
