It's a stark contrast to go from the joyful, humorous and celebratory first hour of Saturday Night Live's 40th Anniversary special to what may have been the most dismal Walking Dead episode to date. And yet, as draggy as it was to follow Rick and his rag-tag group of starving, disappointed, grief-stricken survivors as they trudge along a dirt road to Washington, D.C, it feels like this episode needed to happen. Because things have gone wrong, and if the main purpose of "Them" was to delve into the fallout, it succeeded. And it weathered the storm. (Sorry.)
Faith is being questioned, hope is hanging by a thread, and in the end, an important lesson was demonstrated: This group is stronger and tougher than the sum of its parts.
