Wal-Mart’s Miami-Dade forest development plan puts endangered species at risk

Retail giant Wal-Mart's plan to develop a plot of Miami-Dade forest has triggered alarm among environmentalists as the development will result in loss of rare plants and many endangered species.

Earlier this month, the University of Miami sold an 88-acre tract of endangered pine rockland to Palm Beach County-based developer Ram, who has plans to develop nearly 185,000-sq. ft. space for Wal-Mart. The development will also include nine hundred apartments.
