VMAs 2015: Moments to Watch

“Enough of the finger pointing and the slut shaming,” Jon Caramanica wrote in 2013 in response to the moral panic that gripped the nation over Miley Cyrus’s twerk-filled, tongue-wagging MTV Video Music Awards performance. The haters haven’t gone away, but Ms. Cyrus rolls on, ready to court controversy, as she teased in an interview with The Times last week. There will be skits, “psychedelic” and “raw” elements, and thousands of Twitter fingers ready to critique her every move. “I didn’t want this V.M.A.s to be like they’ve been in the past,” she said. Since it’s the Viacom executive Van Toffler’s last year, anything goes: It’s one big party, and MTV is footing the bill. (The show starts at 9 p.m. on MTV.)
