LEAVE ASIDE for a moment the growing portfolio of restaurants that chef Jonathon Sawyer helms in Cleveland, Ohio. He and his family have moved houses so many times that just keeping track of his home kitchens sounds practically like a full-time job: They’re on their fourth in about 10 years. “My wife, Amelia, and I have nomadic tendencies, and we like the architecture and the uniqueness of old Cleveland houses,” the chef and father of two offered by way of explanation.
The Sawyer family’s latest kitchen may have 1917 bones, but their approach to living and cooking in it is innovative. Still mid-renovation, the space is being designed to foster collaboration. “When we’re cooking, that’s family time,” he said.
