Vast 'oceans' could be trapped in rock beneath Earth's surface

Forget Atlantis — scientists say they may have discovered the store a whole new ocean of sorts on Earth. The only problem for super-ambitious water speculators is that it’s bound up in the rock of our planet’s mantle, hundreds of miles beneath North America.

This particular water reserve isn’t in a form most people are familiar with. Rather than liquid, ice or vapor, the m0lecules of water in question have split into something called a hydroxl radical that can be bound up in the crystal structure of a mineral like ringwoodite.
