Vanska to Conduct Two Farewell Concerts With Musicians of Minnesota Orchestra

MINNEAPOLIS — As had widely been expected here in recent days, Osmo Vanska, who resigned as music director of the Minnesota Orchestra on Tuesday, will conduct concerts on Friday and Saturday evenings presented by the orchestra’s locked-out players. The Musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra, as they call themselves in their independent activities, announced Mr. Vanska’s participation on Thursday, saying that the concerts will be his “thank you and farewell to Minnesota.”

Mr. Vanska’s resignation, two seasons before his contract was to expire in 2015, came in response to the orchestra’s cancellation of two Carnegie Hall concerts in early November after the players had rejected management’s fourth proposal for a new contract.
