Valley Lodge Trail Ride boss: It's all about the kids

Jim Hubbard started riding in a Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo trail ride when he was a teenager. Now, many hundreds of days in the saddle later, Hubbard serves as the trail boss for the Valley Lodge Trail Ride Association, which has been in continuous operation since 1959 and is the fifth-oldest trail-ride group of the 13 now sanctioned by the Houston rodeo.

The Valley Lodge Trail Ride begins in Brookshire and makes its way toward Houston to join the other trail rides in Memorial Park Feb. 27. More than 100 riders on horses as well as 10 or more wagons loaded with kids and families travel the trail.
