US lawmakers to push for harder line on Iran

Fearing that the Obama administration is not tough enough on Tehran, lawmakers from the Republican Party, now a majority in Congress, backed by Democratic allies, are expected to advance a plan for further sanctions on Iran, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said Wednesday, despite White House warnings that such a bill would torpedo the ongoing nuclear talks.

"There's continual efforts to try to figure out a way for Congress to play a role to strengthen whatever final deal may occur," the chairman, Senator Bob Corker, told Reuters.
