US Birth Rate, Teen Pregnancy Rate Hit All-Time Lows in 2013

michaeljung/iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- New data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released on Wednesday show that the birth rate and the teen pregnancy rate in the U.S. both hit all-time lows in 2013.

In 2013, the general fertility rate -- the number of babies born to women between the ages of 15 and 44 -- was 62.5 children per 1,000 women. That figure is one percent lower than in 2012 and nine percent lower than in 2007. The CDC says that the U.S. birth rate has been on the decline since 2007.
