WHO Urges Transition To Smart Syringes By 2020

The United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday urged all countries to adopt the new 'smart' syringes by 2020, which is critical in preventing millions of people from deadly infections. The new 'smart' syringes recommended cannot be used more than once.

Dr. Gottfried Hirnschall, Director of the WHO HIV/AIDS Department, said "Adoption of safety-engineered syringes is absolutely critical to protecting people worldwide from becoming infected with HIV, hepatitis and other diseases. This should be an urgent priority for all countries,"
