NEWARK, N.J., April 2 (Reuters) - U.S. Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey, a leading foreign policy voice in Congress, entered a not guilty plea on corruption charges during a federal court appearance on Thursday and was released without bail.

Menendez, a Democrat, was charged on Wednesday with accepting up to $1 million worth of lavish gifts from Salomon Melgen, a Florida ophthalmologist, in exchange for political favors.
