Up to 80% of Packaged and Processed Foods Contain Excessive Salt, CDC Warns

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has hit out at packaged food producers for knowingly and dangerously ignoring long-standing salt content guidelines. A new report from the CDC suggests that a worrying proportion of packaged foods overstep federal guidelines by containing inadvisably high concentrations of salt, which is not always brought to the attention of the buyer with sufficient prominence.

A known cause of high blood pressure and a wide variety of ensuing health complaints, public health authorities have been pushing for a reduction in salt use by food product manufacturers for decades.
