A new study has found that underwater volcanoes play a role in climate and CO2 emissions. Several studies conducted in the past had shown both short term and long term climate impacts linked to volcanic activity.

The recent study, published in Geophysical Research Letters, was done to find out the role played by volcanic activity in deeply submerged mid-ocean ranges. The researchers focused at mid-ocean ridges where new planetary crust is created by molten rock from the interior of the Earth.
