'Unbroken' gets stuck on a single, heroic note

In "Unbroken," Angelina Jolie tells the heroic, nearly unbelievable story of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic athlete who survived 47 days in a lifeboat in the Pacific during World War II, only to be captured by the Japanese and tortured in a prisoner-of-war camp for three years.

It is a harrowing journey, and an inspirational one. But Jolie takes far too long to tell it, particularly in such a conventional manner.
