Ukrainians vote for new president amid continued violence in eastern region

Ukraine citizens went to the polls Sunday to elect a new president three months after the ouster of the country's pro-Russia leader -- with a strong turnout around the capital city of Kiev and scarce voting in the country’s pro-Russian eastern region.

Results are expected this evening or early Monday with Petro Poroshenko, a 48-year-old billionaire candy-maker, far ahead of the other 20 candidates, according to polls. However, he is not expected to win an absolute majority, which will result in a June 15 runoff.
