Job openings increased by 168,000, the highest since January 2001. Hiring decreased to 4.9 million from 5 million. The hiring rate is holding at 3.5 percent.
The number of people hired in the fields of education, healthcare, professional and business services, leisure and hospitality increased, but hires in construction, manufacturing and retail decreased.
