On TV, plastic surgery cuts both ways

On E!'s Botched, which returns for a second season on Tuesday (9 p.m. ET/PT), reparative surgery can help regular people return to some semblance of less freakish-looking after procedures gone very, very wrong. In the opener, doctors see a patient who had cement injected in her cheeks as a filler.

The appeal? An element of prurience, and of schadenfreude: Better them, with their misshapen faces, their warped bodies, than me.
