BOSTON (AP) — A prosecutor has portrayed a former Massachusetts doctor as a reckless prescriber of powerful pain medications who ignored warning signs that some of his patients were abusing or selling the drugs.

Dr. Joseph Zolot and nurse practitioner Lisa Pliner are charged with conspiracy and drug trafficking for allegedly distributing methadone, oxycodone and fentanyl without legitimate medical reasons. Prosecutors say six of Zolot's patients suffered fatal overdoses.
