BEIJING (Reuters) - China's top diplomat will visit Vietnam this week, China's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, in the highest level direct contact between the two countries since tensions flared over the deployment of a Chinese oil rig in the disputed South China Sea.

State Councilor Yang Jiechi, who outranks the foreign minister, would visit Hanoi on Wednesday for an annual meeting on bilateral cooperation, ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a regular briefing.
