'Theory of Everything' director Marsh walks the high wire

James Marsh makes movies about pushing the limits. He won an Academy Award for his 2008 documentary “Man on Wire,” about a daring high-wire walk between the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Now he’s back in the Oscar conversation for “The Theory of Everything,” his drama about a man who can’t walk at all: physicist Stephen Hawking, who has expanded human understanding about time and space while he’s been paralyzed by motor neuron disease.

In a recent interview, Marsh said that the role required young actor Eddie Redmayne to push his own limits.
