The Houston area unemployment rate dipped slightly to 4.6 percent in August, the Texas Workforce Commission reported Friday. The rate, which is not adjusted for seasonal variations, was 4.7 percent in July.
The state-wide rate, however, is adjusted for seasonal employment shifts such as school schedules and typical hiring patterns around major holidays. In Texas, the unemployment rate edged down from 4.2 percent in July to 4.1 percent in August, the lowest rate it has been since January 2001.
