According to a report released by government researchers Thursday, March 5, suicide by suffocation among teenagers is on the rise, as are rates of female suicide victims. It’s currently unclear as to what the cause of these disturbing trends are, but the fact that more and more young people are choosing suffocation is troubling. Unlike other methods of suicide such as poisoning and hanging, suffocation and strangling is much more effective and succeeds in killing many more people.
The CDC is conflicted in how to deal with and report this issue. What they do not want to do is provide a how-to guide or suggestion guide for troubled teenagers. It is found that often when the media reports on particular suicide methods, the rate of death by such methods increases.
