Physicists have developed a tiny new detector that can ‘see’ individual electrons, a step on the road to finally measuring the mass of a neutrino.

Scientists from MIT, Pacific Northwest National Lab, the University of Washington and the University of California at Santa Barbara spent five years working on their detector, which can pick out single electrons in radioactive gas and fits on top of a table.
