BEIRUT — Russian warplanes carried out a wave of strikes on rebel targets across western Syria on Wednesday in advance of a possible major ground offensive by Syrian troops, activists claimed.
There was no official account from Russia or Syria on the latest airstrikes. There also are no definitive signs that Syrian forces are on the verge of a large-scale ground assault backed by Russian air power, as activists fear.
