Jazz trumpeter Clark Terry was the kind of artist whose presence on a concert stage or in a recording studio couldn’t help but enrich the musical atmosphere. A St. Louis native who was one of the few musicians to play in the bands of both Count Basie and Duke Ellington, Terry was jazz royalty in his own right.
One of the music's most beloved and respected figures, Terry died on Saturday (Feb. 21, 2015) at age 94. A longtime sufferer from diabetes, from which he lost his eyesight, he had gone into hospice care. Place of death and other details have not been provided.
