Summerstage Plans Are Announced

SummerStage, the annual festival of free, live shows presented by the City Parks Foundation all over New York City, will offer performances of nearly every style of music – opera, hip-hop, R&B and jazz, for starters – as well as theater, film, dance and even a couple of circuses. The festival opens on June 3, with a performance by Ty Dolla Sign at Red Hook Park, in Brooklyn, and ends on Aug. 24, with a concert in Central Park by the Fania All-Stars (tickets are required for this one), part of a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Fania Records, the Latin music label, that will run through the festival.

Fania is also presenting concerts in all five boroughs by some of its classic stars, including Roberto Roena y Su Apollo Sound, Joe Bataan, Ismael Miranda and Típica ’73, with Adalberto Santiago and the Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra, as well as by younger performers like Ana Tijoux, a French-Chilean ...
