Sultan of Brunei in bidding to buy New York’s Plaza, London’s Grosvenor House

The Sultan of Brunei is reportedly the frontrunner to buy New York's Plaza Hotel and London's Grosvenor House, just months after his existing hotels in the US and UK were the subject of a backlash over his introduction of controversial new Islamic laws.

Indian tycoon Subrata Roy this month put the two trophy properties and another luxury New York hotel up for sale to raise $1.6 billion for a bail bond that will get him out of Tihar, a sprawling New Delhi prison complex that houses about 12,000 inmates.
