Successful Transcatheter Mitral Valve Implant Could Pave Wave for Thousands More

The very first transcatheter mitral valve replacement device implant has been successfully carried out on the United States at the Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Developed by researchers from the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation, the device could eventually be used to save thousands of lives every year by replacing damaged or diseased heart valves in patients unable to be treated by way of standard surgical repair procedures or drug-based treatment.

The research was conducted by the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation(MHIF) at Minneapolis Heart Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
