Stunning Lake Michigan frozen sand images work of Western Michigan University grad

KALAMAZOO, MI -- Those striking images of frozen sand formations on the shores of Lake Michigan that are making the rounds from social media sites to Good Morning America are the work of a Western Michigan University grad who braved blizzard conditions last weekend to capture the shots.

Joshua Nowicki, 35, earned a masters degree in anthropology from WMU but these days he is working full time on photography, he said in an interview Tuesday. That work takes him out almost every day, regardless of weather, and Lake Michigan is one of his favorite subjects, he said.
