Study Supports Use of Edwards' and Medtronic's New Heart Valves

A new study in JAMA has provided information about use of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for patients with failed bioprosthetic valves. The study involved 459 patients who underwent TAVI with either the Edwards Sapien device or the Medtronic Corevalve device. TAVI are available from two companies Edwards Lifesciences and Medtronic.

TAVI is now considered as a better treatment for patients who have already undergone surgery but still have failed bioprosthetic valves.
