Study Shows Music Does Soothe The Savage Beast; Or At Least the Depressed Teen

The Northern Island Music Therapy Trust and Queen’s University Belfast has recently released the results of a joint study they conducted to determine how effective music therapy might be for children and adolescents experiencing symptoms of depression. Published in Alpha Galileo, the researchers explains that since traditional medical treatments—like drug therapy—are often accompanied by several potentially dangerous side effects, natural therapies are becoming increasingly more popular.

With money from the Big Lottery Fund, the researchers began the study in March of 2011 and concluded in May of this year. During this time, the researchers examined and analyzed 251 people diagnosed to have emotional or behavioral problems.
