Vincent was only 28 when his enemies cornered him. They beat him, bit him and ripped at his flesh until he was covered with wounds. Then they left him to die.

"I found him the next morning, lying in a dry stream bed," says evolutionary anthropologist Michael Wilson of the University of Minnesota. It was "horrific to see all the damage they had done to him. … He was a prime male. He should've had many good years ahead of him."
