Study Questions View on Alcoholism

A recent paper published in the journal Preventing Chronic Disease suggests that regular alcohol consumption may not be the sign of a big problem. Robert Brewer, of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention comments that “This study shows that, contrary to popular opinion, most people who drink too much are not alcohol dependent.”

He says that it is actually common for people to drink casually, but that does not mean that we should assume that drinking regularly (and excessively) is “safe” even though it might be acceptable.
